LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 7, 2005

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB609 by Nelson (Relating to the establishment of an advisory panel to conduct a study on the reporting of health care associated infection rates and process measures.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) indicates that existing staff would represent the agency on the advisory panel. The bill would allow only state agency representatives to be reimbursed for travel expenses from agency funds in accordance with the General Appropriations Act. The agency indicates that no travel expenses would be incurred by a representative of DSHS on the advisory panel. The agency also assumes that DSHS would not be responsible for providing staff support to the panel.

It is assumed that any costs to the agency associated with implementing the provisions of the bill would be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
