IN RE:
SB610 by Nelson (Relating to the regulation of the practice of dentistry. ), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would amend the Occupations Code by stating that a person does not practice dentistry if the person is a dentist or dental hygienist who is not licensed in this state and who is taking the dental clinical examination offered in this state by an examining body designated by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (board). The bill would require the board to set objectives for the x-ray certification examination and procedures to ensure the examination’s integrity. The board, in consultation with the advisory committee, would also be required to develop a program to ensure that courses and examinations developed or administered comply with board rules. Based on the board’s analysis, it is assumed that the provisions of the bill could be implemented using existing resources and would not have a significant fiscal impact.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
