IN RE:
SB610 by Nelson (Relating to the regulation of the practice of dentistry.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill would amend Section 251.004(a) of the Occupations Code by stating that a person does not practice dentistry if the person is a dentist or dental hygienist who is not licensed in this state and who is taking the dental clinical examination offered in this state by an examining body designated by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

The bill also amends Section 256.103 of the Occupations Code by adding Subsection (c) to state that a person may practice without displaying the person's current registration certificate as required by Subsection (a) for not more than 30 days after the date the person receives written confirmation from the Board that the person's original license was issued.

The bill also amends Sections 263.006(a) and (b) of the Occupations Code by stating that the Board of Dental Examiners shall suspend a license holder's license issued under this subtitle on proof that the person has been initially convicted of a felony, misdemeanors under Sections 25.07 and 25.071 of the Penal Code, and a misdemeanor on conviction of which a defendant is required to register as a sex offender.

According to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
