LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 5, 2005

TO:
Honorable Todd Staples, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1073 by Staples (Relating to the issuance of a temporary tag for use on an unregistered motor vehicle.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation to issue or contract for the issuance of dealer, converter, or buyer temporary tags for use on certain unregistered vehicles. If this authority was implemented, the bill would specify that any fee charged for a temporary tag may not to exceed $2, which would be paid by the purchaser of a vehicle.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
