TO: | Honorable Chris Harris, Chair, Senate Committee on Administration |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | SB1160 by Harris (Relating to the civil penalty for late filing of a lobby registration or report that is corrected by the registrant.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend statute and provide that a registration or report filed with the Texas Ethics Commission would not be considered late if the registrant files a corrected or amended registration or report no later than the 14th business day after the date the registrant becomes aware of the error or omission. The Texas Ethics Commission estimates that approximately 25 percent of late filing fees, or approximately $15,500, would not be assessed to registrants as a result. These fees are collected by the agency and deposited into the General Revenue Fund.
