LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2005

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1376 by Staples (Relating  to the authority of a parent to designate a child-care facility or grandparent's residence for purposes of transportation provided by a public school transportation system.   ), Committee Report 1st House, As Amended

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require a school district’s board of trustees to allow a parent to designate a child-care facility or grandparent’s residence instead of the child’s legal residence for school transportation purposes.

The bill would apply beginning with the 2005-06 school year.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.  Depending upon the circumstances within a particular school district, it is possible that designations of child-care facilities or grandparents’ residences could increase or decrease local overall route mileage.
