FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2005

TO:
Honorable Frank Madla, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1539 by Barrientos (Relating to the application of the municipal civil service law for firefighters and police officers to certain municipalities.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would expand the applicability of provisions under Chapter 143, Local Government Code. Under current statute, municipal civil service law applies to a municipality that has a population of 10,000 or more, has a paid fire department and a paid police department, and has voted to adopt Chapter 143. The proposed change in statute would include a municipality that meets those criteria and that has a paid fire department or a paid police department.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
