LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 25, 2005

TO:
Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair, Senate Committee on Government Organization

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1645 by Shapleigh (Relating to creation of an Internet portal for housing resources.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 2306 of the Government Code by adding new Section 2306.009, relating to a housing resources Internet portal. The bill would require the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), with assistance from the Department of Information Resources (DIR) and with participation by the Office of Rural Community Affairs, the Texas Real Estate Commission, the Savings and Loan Department, the Texas Water Development Board, and interested parties in the private sector, to establish and maintain a housing resources Internet portal. The bill would require DIR to host the portal through TexasOnline project.

Based on the analysis of TDHCA and DIR, it is assumed any costs and duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
