IN RE:	SB1742 by West, Royce (Relating to authorizing certain nature centers to charge admission fees.), Committee Report 1st House, As Amended

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize in a county with a population of 1.8 million or more, a not-for-profit entity that maintains county and municipal park property as a nature center under a formal agreement to charge an admission fee. Fees collected may be used only for providing educational programs conducted on, to maintain, or to construct improvements to the county and municipal property. Fees must be audited annually by an independent auditor.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives the required two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

The population criteria would apply to Dallas and Harris counties. No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
