LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 4, 2005

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1749 by Janek (Relating to creating a health workforce planning partnership. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create the Texas Health Workforce Planning Partnership. The partnership would be housed within the Department of State Health Services and would be composed of the administrative head or a designee of the Health and Human Services Commission, the Department of State Health Services, the Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Workforce Commission, the Health Professions Council, the Office of Rural Community Health Affairs, and any other state agency identified by the Governor that impacts health workforce planning. Existing staff from the member agencies would support the partnership. The governor would also appoint a person to the partnership to represent area health education centers, and the governor would designate a member of the partnership to serve as presiding officer. Partnership members would be entitled to reimbursement for travel expenses if specifically approved in the General Appropriations Act.  It is assumed that travel expenses would be minimal and could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
