LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

OPEN GOVERNMENT IMPACT STATEMENT

79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 19, 2005

TO:
Honorable Frank Madla, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB299 by Wentworth (Relating to the exception from required public disclosure of the name of an applicant for the position of city manager of certain home-rule municipalities.), As Introduced

As a result of this bill there will be a restriction upon:

(1) the open records law; and
(3) the access to government information.

The bill would except the name of an applicant for city manager of certain home-rule municipalities from the requirements of Government Code Section 552.021.  Because the bill would decrease the public's right to access such information, there will be an impact on open government laws.
