LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

ACTUARIAL IMPACT STATEMENT

79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 18, 2005

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB310 by Deuell (Relating to certain diseases or illnesses suffered by firefighters and emergency medical technicians.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

CSSB 310 would make changes to Chapter 607 of Government Code regarding occupational injury or illness from diseases and illnesses suffered by firefighters and other emergency personnel. It is not anticipated to have any actuarial impact on the Employees Retirement System, or the Texas Statewide Emergency Services Retirement System.  It may have an impact on the incidence of work related disability or death benefits for certain local fire or other pension systems, depending both on their current rules regarding disability and death benefits, and on whether the bill would pertain to members of their system. However, any such actuarial impact is estimated to not be significant.
