The House Committees on General Investigating & Ethics And Public Education 79th Legislature November 30, 2005 10:30 a.m. or call of the chairs Capitol Extension E2.036 Pursuant to a notice posted on November 21, 2005, the House Committee on General Investigating & Ethics and Public Education held a combined public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Bailey and Representative Grusendorf, at 10:30 a.m. The General Investigating and Ethics roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Bailey; Paxton; Dutton; Flynn; Keel (5). Absent: None (0). A quorum was present. The Public Education roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Grusendorf; Branch; Eissler; Dutton; Keffer; Hochberg (6). Absent: Representatives Oliveira; Delisi (2). A quorum was present. Chairman Grusendorf explained the first part of our interim charge and called on Adam Jones and Rita Chase from the TEA to talk about the lobbying issue. Chairman Grusendorf then called on Natalia Ashley from the Texas Ethics Commission to explain the lobby issue. Chairman Grusendorf announced the subcommittee on the first part of our interim charge: Representative Paxton, Chair; Flynn; Dutton; Keffer; Oliveira (5). Chairman Bailey then took over to lay out the second part of the charge and called on Curtis Martin from the AGC to explain the competitive bid process for schools. Chairman Bailey then called on Sedora Jefferson and Chris Szaniszlo from TASB to explain the Buy Board and it's process. Chairman Bailey ask the clerk to announce the members of the subcommittee for part 2 of the charge: Representatives Bailey, Chair; Hochberg; Branch; Mowery; Flynn (5). At 12:20 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was recessed until 12:30 p.m., November 30, 2005. The committee reconvened at 12:43 p.m. and was called to order by the chair, Representative Bailey. A quorum was present of both Committees. The Committees then heard from Pete Wassdorf from the Attorney General's Office for the purpose of clarifying Section 556 of the Government Code.
