MINUTES STANDING SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Monday, February 28, 2005 3:00 p.m. Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Standing Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies and Economic Development was held on Monday February 28, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. The posting rule, Senate Rule 11.18, was suspended to hear SB 593. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator John Carona None Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kim Brimer Senator Craig Estes Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. ***** Chairman Carona called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: At 3:11 p.m. Senator Brimer assumed the chair. The chair made opening remarks and began the discussion with public testimony on emerging technologies and economic development. Witnesses testifying on emerging technologies and economic development are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. At 3:25 p.m. Senator Carona resumed the chair. The following members arrived after the roll was called: Senator Averitt and Senator Estes Senator Averitt moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on February 21, 2005; without objection, it was so ordered. At 3:27 p.m. Senator Brimer assumed the chair. The chair laid out SB 593 and recognized the author, Senator Carona, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Carona moved that SB 593 be reported favorably to the full Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. The Chairman recognized Motions in Writing: Unanimous Consent to Vote submitted by Senator Lucio voting aye on SB 593. Without objection, it was so ordered. At 3:48 p.m. Senator Carona resumed the chair. There being no further business, at 3:50 p.m. Chairman Carona moved that the committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chairman.
