MINUTES STANDING SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Monday, March 7, 2005 3:00 p.m. or upon adjournment Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies & Economic Development was held on Monday, March 7, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator John Carona Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kim Brimer Senator Craig Estes Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. ***** The Committee is in recess and a quorum was established at an earlier meeting and will be re-established as the meeting progresses. The Chairman made opening remarks and began the discussion with public testimony on emerging technologies and economic development. Witnesses testifying on emerging technologies and economic development are shown on the attached list. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 3:25 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Brimer moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on February 28, 2005; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chairman laid out SB 96 and recognized the author, Senator Shapleigh, to explain the bill. Senator Brimer sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Shapleigh to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chairman moved that SB 96 be left pending to await a quorum; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chairman laid out SB 602 and recognized the author, Senator Ellis, to explain the bill. Senator Brimer sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption; without objection, the amendment was adopted. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chairman moved that SB 602 be left pending to await a quorum; without objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Carona moved that the committee stand recessed until 4:00 p.m; without objection, it was so ordered. At 4:00 p.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. assumed the chair, laid out SB 255 and recognized the author, Senator Carona to explain the bill.
