         Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of  
         the Standing Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies &  
         Economic Development was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in the  
         Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         Chairman Carona called the meeting to order at 1:25 p.m.  There  
         being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:   
         Senator Craig Estes 
          
         The Chairman laid out HB 2307, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Averitt moved that HB 2307 be reported favorably to the full  
         Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that  
         it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record  
         vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.   
          
         The Chairman laid out SB 1711, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Averitt moved adoption of the committee substitute, sent up in  
         the previous meeting; without objection, it was so ordered.  
         Senator Averitt moved that SB 1711 do not pass but that CSSB  
         1711 be reported favorable to the full Committee on Business and  
         Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.   
         The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0  
         present not voting, and 1 absent.     
          
         The Chairman laid out SB 1254, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Estes moved adoption of the committee substitute, sent up in the  
         previous meeting; without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator  
         Estes moved that SB 1254 do not pass but that CSSB 1254 be  
         reported favorable to the full Committee on Business and  
  
         Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.   
         The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0  
         present not voting, and 1 absent. 
          
         The Chairman laid out SB 1253, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Estes moved that SB 1253 be reported favorably to the full  
         Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that  
         it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record  
         vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.     
          
         The Chairman laid out CSSB 1038, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Estes moved that SB 1038 do not pass but that CSSB 1038 be  
         reported favorable to the full Committee on Business and  
         Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.   
         The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0  
         present not voting, and 1 absent.   
          
         The Chairman laid out CSSB 1304, pending in committee.  Senator  
         Estes moved that SB 1304 do not pass but that CSSB 1304 be  
         reported back to the full Committee on Business and Commerce  
         with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The  
         motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present  
         not voting, and 1 absent.   
          
         There being no further business, Chairman Carona moved that the  
         Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.   
         Without objection, it was so ordered.
