MINUTES STANDING SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Monday, April 25, 2005 3:00 p.m. or upon adjournment Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies & Economic Development was held on Monday, April 25, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator John Carona Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kim Brimer Senator Craig Estes Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. ***** The Chairman called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. The Committee is in recess, and a quorum was established at an earlier meeting and will be re-established as the meeting progresses. The Chairman laid out SB 1530 and recognized the author, Senator Zaffirini to explain the bill. Senator Lucio sent up committee substitute; and the Chair recognized Senator Zaffirini, to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The Chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Carona moved that SB 1530 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered. There being a quorum present, the Clerk called roll. Senator Estes moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on April 18, 2005, and April 19, 2005; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chairman laid out SB 1412, pending in committee. Chairman Carona advised that a committee substitute had been laid out in the previous hearing, and recognized Senator Lucio who moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection the substitute was adopted. Senator Lucio moved that SB1412 do not pass but that CSSB 1412 be reported back to the full Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. The Chairman laid out SB 1530 and recognized Senator Lucio, Jr. who moved for adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that SB 1530 do not pass but that CSSB 1530 be reported back to the full Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 3 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. There being no further business, at 4:00 p.m. Chairman Carona moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
