Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on
Emerging Technologies & Economic Development was held on Monday,
May 2, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin,
Texas.

Chairman Carona called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m. There
being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
Senator Estes moved adoption of the minutes from the previous
hearing held on April 25, 2005; without objection, it was so
ordered.
The Chairman laid out HB 1938 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Brimer, to explain the bill. Senator Brimer sent up a
committee substitute; the Chair recognized Senator Brimer to
explain the difference between the committee substitute and the
bill as filed. Senator Brimer moved adoption of the committee
substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Witnesses
testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached
list. The Chairman moved that the public testimony be closed;
without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Estes moved that
HB 1938 do not pass but that CSHB 1938 be reported favorably to
the full committee on Business and Commerce with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion
carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not
voting, and 1 absent.
The Chairman laid out SB 1730 and recognized Senator Brimer, in
the absence of the author, to explain the bill. Senator Brimer
sent up a committee substitute; the Chair recognized Senator
Brimer to explain the difference between the committee
substitute and the bill as filed. Senator Estes moved adoption
of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so
ordered. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are
shown on the attached list. The Chairman moved that the public
testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Brimer moved that SB 1730 do not pass but that CSSB 1730
be reported back to the full Committee on Business and Commerce
with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The
motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present
not voting, and 1 absent.

the absence of the Senate sponsor, to explain the bill. Senator
Brimer sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption; without
objection, the amendment was adopted. Witnesses testifying and
registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The
Chairman moved that the public testimony be closed; without
objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Carona moved that HB
1734 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption; without

objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Carona moved that SB 818
be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 7:20 p.m. Chairman Carona
moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of
the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
