MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION Tuesday, February 8, 2005 8:30 a.m. Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Florence Shapiro Senator Steve Ogden Senator Royce West Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kyle Janek Senator Todd Staples Senator Leticia Van de Putte Senator Tommy Williams Senator Judith Zaffirini ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 8:36 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Staples moved adoption of the committee rules, without objection, the rules were adopted. The chair welcomed members to the Committee and made opening remarks. The chair referred the following bills to the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education: SB 39, SB 67, SB 68, SB 114, SB 132, and SB 254. Senator West moved that the bills be referred to the Subcommittee, without objection, the bills were referred. Witnesses testifying and registering on 'No Child Left Behind Overview and Review of Funding' are shown on the attached list. Witnesses testifying and registering on 'Adequate Yearly Progress' are shown on the attached list. Witnesses testifying and registering on 'Assessment Requirements' are shown on the attached list. Witnesses testifying and registering on 'Highly Qualified Teachers' are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business, at 10:48 a.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
