MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION Tuesday, March 29, 2005 8:30 a.m. Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Florence Shapiro Senator Tommy Williams Senator Royce West Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kyle Janek Senator Steve Ogden Senator Todd Staples Senator Leticia Van de Putte Senator Judith Zaffirini ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 8:36 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Shapiro made opening remarks about HB 2. At 8:41 a.m. Senator West assumed the chair. The chair laid out HB 2 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Shapiro. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. At 10:32 a.m. Senator Staples assumed the chair. Senator Staples moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Staples moved that HB 2 be left pending until the Committee reconvenes; without objection, it was so ordered. At 10:48 a.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair. At 10:48 a.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the committee stand recessed until 30 minutes after adjournment of the Senate; without objection, it was so ordered. At 1:33 p.m. the Committee reconvened. At 1:33 p.m. Senator Averitt assumed the chair. The chair resumed invited testimony on HB 2. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. At 1:51 p.m. Senator West assumed the chair. At 3:21 p.m. Senator Staples assumed the chair. At 3:40 p.m. Senator West assumed the chair. At 5:28 p.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair. Senator Van de Putte moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Van de Putte moved that HB 2 be left pending. There being no further business, at 5:33 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
