Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was
held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:36 a.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
Senator Shapiro made opening remarks about HB 2.
At 8:41 a.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
The chair laid out HB 2 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Shapiro.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
At 10:32 a.m. Senator Staples assumed the chair.
Senator Staples moved that the public testimony be closed;
without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Staples moved that HB 2 be left pending until the
Committee reconvenes; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 10:48 a.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
At 10:48 a.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the committee stand
recessed until 30 minutes after adjournment of the Senate;
without objection, it was so ordered.
At 1:33 p.m. the Committee reconvened.
At 1:33 p.m. Senator Averitt assumed the chair.
The chair resumed invited testimony on HB 2.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
At 1:51 p.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
At 3:21 p.m. Senator Staples assumed the chair.
At 3:40 p.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
At 5:28 p.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair.
Senator Van de Putte moved that the public testimony be closed;
without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Van de Putte moved that HB 2 be left pending.
There being no further business, at 5:33 p.m. Senator Van de
Putte moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the
call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
