Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was
held on Thursday, March 31, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:38 a.m. The
following business was transacted:
At 8:39 a.m. Senator Staples assumed the chair.
Discussion began on HB 2, which was previously left pending in
the Committee.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
At 8:40 a.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
There being a quorum present at 9:23 a.m., the clerk called the
roll.
At 9:45 a.m. Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair.
At 9:48 a.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair.
At 9:49 a.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
At 10:45 a.m. Senator West moved that the committee stand
recessed until 1:30 p.m; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 1:30 p.m. the committee reconvened, Senator West assumed the
chair.
The Committee resumed testimony on HB 2.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
At 2:01 p.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
At 2:01 p.m. Senator Shapiro moved that the committee stand
recessed until 2:15 p.m; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 2:20 p.m. the committee reconvened.
At 2:20 p.m. Senator Van de Putte assumed the chair.
The Committee resumed testimony on HB 2.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
At 3:21 p.m. Senator West assumed the chair.
Senator Zaffirini moved to limit public testimony to three
minutes per witness; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 4:09 p.m. Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair.
The chair moved that public testimony be closed; without
objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Zaffirini moved that HB 2 be left pending; without
objection, it was so ordered.
At 4:25 p.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.
There being no further business, at 4:25 p.m. Senator Shapiro
moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of
the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
