MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE Sunday, May 14, 2006 5:15 p.m. or upon adjournment of the Subcommittee on Capital Funding for Higher Education Capitol Extension, Room E1.036 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance was held on Sunday, May 14, 2006, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Steve Ogden None Senator Judith Zaffirini Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kim Brimer Senator Bob Deuell Senator Robert Duncan Senator Juan Hinojosa Senator Kyle Janek Senator Frank Madla Senator Jane Nelson Senator Florence Shapiro Senator Todd Staples Senator Royce West Senator John Whitmire Senator Tommy Williams ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. Senator Ogden moved that the Committee stand recessed until 6:15 p.m. Senator Ogden reconvened the Committee at 6:25 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The chair laid out the Subcommittee Report on HB 153 and its committee substitute, and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Zaffirini, to explain the Subcommittee Report. Senator Zaffirini moved that HB 153 do not pass but that CSHB 153 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 14 ayes, 0 nay, 1 present not voting, and 0 absent. The chair laid out HB 149, which had been left pending at a previous hearing, and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Averitt, to explain the bill. Senator Averitt sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Averitt to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Senator Averitt moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Averitt moved that HB 149 do not pass but that CSHB 149 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 15 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. There being no further business, at 7:00 p.m. Senator Ogden moved that the Committee be adjourned.
