MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS & TRADE Saturday, May 21, 2005 8:45 a.m. Senator Lucio's Desk ***** Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on International Relations & Trade was held on Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Senator Lucio's Desk. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. None Senator Eliot Shapleigh Senator John Carona Senator Kevin Eltife Senator Craig Estes Senator Kel Seliger Senator Judith Zaffirini ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 8:49 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Eltife moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on May 18, 2005, and May 19, 2005; without objection, it was so ordered. The following members arrived after the roll was called: Senator Judith Zaffirini At 8:51 a.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. The chair laid out HB 925 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Lucio, Jr., to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. At 9:00 a.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. resumed the chair. Senator Shapleigh sent up Committee Amendment 1. At 9:02 a.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. Senator Shapleigh moved to reopen public testimony; without objection, it was so ordered. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. At 9:04 a.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. resumed the chair. Senator Shapleigh explained Committee Amendment #1, and moved adoption; without objection, the amendment was adopted. At 9:05 a.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that HB 925, as amended, be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 1 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. At 9:06 a.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. resumed the chair. There being no further business, at 9:07 a.m. Senator Lucio, Jr. moved that the Committee be adjourned sine die.
