MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON JURISPRUDENCE Wednesday, February 23, 2005 1:30 p.m. Capitol Extension, Room E1.012 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Jeff Wentworth Senator Kip Averitt Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Robert Duncan Senator Chris Harris Senator Juan Hinojosa Senator Royce West ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 1:52 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Duncan moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on February 16, 2005; without objection, it was so ordered. At 1:53 p.m. Senator Duncan assumed the chair. The chair laid out SB 168 and recognized the author, Senator Wentworth, to explain the bill. The bill was left pending from the previous hearing. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. At 2:00 p.m. Senator Gallegos, Jr. assumed the chair. Senator Wentworth moved that SB 168 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 1 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. At 2:01 p.m. Senator Wentworth resumed the chair. The chair laid out SB 181 and recognized the author, Senator Janek, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chair announced that SB 181 be left pending at the request of Senator Janek. There was no action taken for the following bill: SB 145 There being no further business, at 4:06 p.m. Senator Gallegos, Jr. moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
