Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations was held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in the Webster Civic Center, Webster, Texas at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 10:11 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

Senator Van de Putte recognized General Best, who led the Committee in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

Persons who provided invited testimony are listed on the attached witness list.

 

The Chair made opening remarks and welcomed everyone.  At 11:15 Senators Shapleigh and Jackson were present.  Both made welcoming remarks.  At 11:30 Senator Gallegos was present.

 

At 12:24 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the committee stand recessed until 12:39 p.m; without objection, it was so ordered.  

 

At 12:39 p.m. the committee reconvened jointly with the Subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure.  At 12:40 p.m. Senators Shapleigh and Van de Putte shared presiding duties.

 

Persons who provided invited testimony are listed on the attached witness list.

 

There being no further business, at 2:27 p.m. Senator Shapleigh moved that the Subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Van de Putte asked if there was anyone who wished to provide public testimony, there being none, the chair moved that public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.  At 2:28 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
