CONTINGENCY FOR HB 1238: Contingent upon passage of HB 1238,
or similar legislation, it is the intent of the legislature that
with the effective date of this act, each institution of higher
education with a student health center that employs at least one
physician working at least 30 hours per week, shall contract with a
third party billing company to begin accepting private health
insurance from students.
Prior to entering into a contract with a third party billing
company, the Higher Education Coordinating Board shall ensure that
each third party billing company contracting with a student health
center has demonstrated competence by getting at least three
recommendation letters from student centers, including one in
Texas.
Should a student health center choose not to contract with a
third party billing company, the institution of higher education
shall have its FY09 general revenue appropriation reduced by an
amount of $17.50 per full time student equivalent as determined by
the Legislative Budget Board in cooperation with Higher Education
Coordinating Board.
