BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

Cameron County continues to grow in population, and the caseload of the district courts has grown as well. The purpose of the bill is to create an additional district court in Cameron County.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

 

ANALYSIS

 

The bill would add a new section to the Government Code creating the 445th Judicial District. The court will be required to give preference to criminal cases.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE

 

September 1, 2007.
