AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Current law does not require truancy magistrates to complete continuing education, despite the fact that truancy laws may be amended during a legislative session.

 

H.B. 1346 requires truancy magistrates to complete at least eight hours of continuing education conducted by the Texas Association of Counties, the State Bar of Texas, or the Texas Justice Court Training Center every two years.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 54.1172, Government Code, by adding Subsection (d), to require a magistrate appointed under Subsection (a) (relating to the appointment of magistrates to hear truancy matters) to complete every two years at least eight hours of continuing education conducted by the Texas Association of Counties, the State Bar of Texas, or the Texas Justice Court Training Center.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2007.
