                                                                                                       Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law does not require continuing education for truancy magistrates. The purpose of the bill is to require such training.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

The bill would amend the Government Code to add a new section requiring truancy magistrates to complete at least eight hours of continuing education every two years. Such education must be conducted by the Texas Association of Counties, the State Bar of Texas, or the Texas Justice Court Training Center.

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2007.
