AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Junior college districts in Texas have specified service areas.
H.B. 1374 expands the service area of the Amarillo College District to include all of Moore County, and takes that portion of Moore County that is currently served by the Borger Junior College District out of the Borger Junior College District's service area.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 130.164, Education Code, as follows:
Sec. 130.164. AMARILLO COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE AREA. Provides that the service area of the Amarillo College District includes Moore County, rather than the territory within Moore County that is within the Dumas Independent School District.
SECTION 2. Amends Section 130.169, Education Code, as follows:
Sec. 130.169. BORGER JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE AREA. Deletes existing text providing that the service area of the Borger Junior College District includes the territory within Moore County, except the territory within the Dumas Independent School District.
SECTION 3. Makes application of this Act prospective to the 2007 fall semester, except that during the 2007-2008 academic year the Borger Junior College District is authorized to continue to treat the area removed by this Act from the district's service area as if the area were still in the district's service area as necessary to avoid an unreasonable interruption of junior college services in the area.
SECTION 4. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2007.
