BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law creates a temporary mandate for lawyers active in the state bar to pay an annual fee of $65 designated as a legal services fee. The purpose of this bill is to remove the expiration date and make the fee permanent.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

The section of the Government Code establishing the state bar legal services fee of $65 is set to expire September 1, 2007. The bill removes this expiration date.

EFFECTIVE DATE

Immediately on receipt of required vote; otherwise September 1, 2007.
