AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

There have been rumors over the last few years that the board of regents (board) of the Texas State University System (system) is planning to rename all of the universities in the system.  However, changing the name of one of those universities, Sam Houston State University (SHSU), would disregard the contributions of Sam Houston to the state and take away from the university’s history.

H.B. 1418 prohibits the board from changing the name of SHSU.
