AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

H.B. 1449 designates November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month.  In order to raise awareness and funding for the disease, public schools and other public facilities have the option of conducting certain educational activities.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.104, as follows:

 

Sec. 662.104.  LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.  (a) Provides that November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month to increase awareness of lung cancer and encourage funding of research and more effective treatments.

 

(b) Authorizes Lung Cancer Awareness Month to be regularly observed by appropriate activities in public schools and other places to increase the awareness of lung cancer and support for lung cancer research.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2007.
