BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

As of 2005 Lung Cancer killed more Americans than prostate, breast and colorectal cancers combined.  According to the American Cancer Society, 13% of all new cancer cases reported in the United States in 2005 were lung cancer, approximately 172,570 new cases.
