AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

H.B. 2190 allows the State of Texas to do a nationwide search for a replacement for the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) executive director.  The intent is to allow candidates for TRS executive director to be from states in the United States other than Texas.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 825.202(c), Government Code, to require a person, to be eligible to serve as the executive director of the Teacher Retirement System, to be a citizen of the United States and have executive ability and experience to carry out the duties of the office, rather than have been a citizen of this state for the three years immediately preceding the appointment.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2007.
