BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law allows for specialty license plates for the military.  Among the specialty plates allowed, are plates for Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans  and Distinguished Flying Cross Medal Recipients.  However, there is not a specialty plate for Legion of Merit medal recipients.

HB 2282 directs the Texas Department of Transportation to issue Legion of Merit specialty license plates for recipients of the Legion of Merit medal.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

HB 2282 amends the Transportation Code to require the Texas Department of Transportation to issue specialty license plates for persons who have received the Legion of Merit medal.  Further, it establishes the fee for the issuance of the license plates to be $10 for the first set and $15 for each additional set of license plates.

EFFECTIVE DATE
