                                                                                                       Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The city of Laredo believes that municipal courts of record are in the public interest. The purpose of the bill is to create and establish rules for municipal courts of record in Laredo.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

The bill would amend the Government Code to add a new subchapter creating and making provisions for municipal courts of record in the city of Laredo. Judges of these courts are to be elected to four year terms with a term limit of two terms.
