AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Today, most companies register their token semitrailers (a semitrailer with a gross weight of 6,000 pounds operated in combination with a truck or truck-tractor) for one year or register the semitrailer in another state. If the company registers the semitrailers in this state, a sticker is issued to the company to be placed on the plate to show the registration has been paid for that year. Many companies have a difficult time keeping up with the locations of their semitrailers, and in many instances semitrailers are not parked at the company facilities on a particular schedule. This requirement has caused some companies to register their semitrailers in other states that have more flexible regulations in this area. Under current law, a company or person must own 50 or more semitrailers to be eligible to register the trailers for a period of five consecutive years.
H.B. 2992 authorizes the owner of any number of semitrailers to register the semitrailers for a period of five consecutive years.
