AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Current law prohibits the governing body of a political subdivision (governing body) other than a county from changing the date on which it holds its general elections to another authorized uniform election date after December 31, 2005.  This period has since expired and may need to be amended to provide for such authority.

H.B. 3619 authorizes the governing body, not later than December 31, 2008, to change the date on which it holds its general elections to another authorized uniform election date.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
