                                                                                                       Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Until recently, the Election Code permitted bodies of government to alter their scheduled general election day to another authorized date.  In current statute, the time period for which a governing body has to change their scheduled date has now lapsed.  H.B. 3619 will modify the former date to December 31, 2008, which will allow a body or subdivision access to change their scheduled general election date

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 3619 amends the Election Code to allow a governing body or political subdivision, other than a county, to change the scheduled general election date to another authorized uniform election date, not later than December 31, 2008.

EFFECTIVE DATE

Upon passage, or, if the Act does not receive the necessary vote, the Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
