AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Current law regarding the compensation for judges of county courts at law in Nueces County cites specific courts and only requires compensation for certain, and not all, of the county courts at law.  

 

H.B. 4007 requires equal compensation for all judges of county courts at law and amends the language of the statute to accommodate the addition of future county courts at law.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 25.1802(e), Government Code, as follows:

 

(e) Requires the judges of the county courts at law in Nueces County to each be paid an annual salary equal to the amount that is $1,000 less than the salary paid by the state to a district judge in the county.  Deletes existing text authorizing the judges of certain county courts at law to be paid the aforementioned amount.

 

SECTION 2.  Repealer: Section 25.1802(f) and (g) (relating to the appointment of and compensation for a special judge for county courts at law), Government Code.

 

SECTION 3.  Effective date: September 1, 2007.

 

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE CHANGES

 

Amends SECTION 3 of the bill (Engrossed Version, page 1, line 16) by striking the existing language of SECTION 3 of the bill and substituting the following appropriately numbered SECTION:
