BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

Population and caseloads continue to grow in El Paso County. The purpose of this bill is to add two county criminal courts at law in El Paso County.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

 

ANALYSIS

 

The bill would amend the Government Code to provide for the creation of County Criminal Court No. 3 and County Criminal Court No. 4 of El Paso County. The bill also provides that County Criminal Court No. 4 shall give preference to cases of assault against a family member or other person with a relationship described under Chapter 71, Family Code, and violations of protective orders under Section 25.07, Penal Code.

September 1, 2007.
