                                                                                                       Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law requires a bailiff for each county in the 97th judicial district. The purpose of the bill is to permit a bailiff to serve more than one county.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

The bill would amend the Government Code to permit the judge of the 97th District Court to appoint a bailiff to serve in more than one county of the district. The bill would also require approval of the bailiff's salary by each relevant county commissioner's court and apportionment thereof by the judge with notice to each commissioner's court.
