AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
The Calhoun County Navigation District (district) was created in 1953 by the 53rd Legislature. The board of the district (board) unanimously approved changing the name of the district to The Calhoun Port Authority. The district has continued to grow and the board feels that this name change would more appropriately reflect the mission and role of the district in the local and regional economy.
S.B. 564 changes the name of The Calhoun County Navigation District to The Calhoun Port Authority.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 1, Chapter 195, Acts of the 53rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1953, by redesignating The Calhoun County Navigation District as The Calhoun Port Authority. Makes conforming changes.
SECTION 2. Amends Chapter 195, Acts of the 53rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1953, by adding Section 1a, to establish that the name of The Calhoun County Navigation District is changed to "The Calhoun Port Authority." Provides that a reference in law to The Calhoun County Navigation District means The Calhoun Port Authority.
SECTION 3. Amends Sections 2(a), (b), (c), (e), and (f), Chapter 195, Acts of the 53rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1953, to make conforming changes.
SECTION 4. Amends Section 3, Chapter 195, Acts of the 53rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1953, to make conforming changes.
SECTION 5. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2007.
