AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Currently, there are seven statutory county courts in Travis County.  These courts have experienced enormous growth and a large increase in caseload since the last court was added in 1999.

 

S.B. 660 creates an additional statutory county court in Travis County.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 25.2291(a), Government Code, to add the County Court at Law Number 8 of Travis County to the list of statutory county courts of Travis County.

 

SECTION 2.  Amends Section 25.2292, Government Code, by adding Subsection (n), as follows:

 

(n)  Requires the County Court at Law Number 8 of Travis County to give preference to criminal cases.

 

SECTION 3.  Creates the County Court at Law Number 8 of Travis County on the effective date of this Act.

 

SECTION 4.  Effective date:  January 1, 2008.
