AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Current law only deems public institutions of higher education as eligible to compete in the advanced research program.

As proposed, S.B. 944 allows private colleges and universities to compete in the advanced research program.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 142.001(3), Education Code, to redefine "eligible institution."

SECTION 2.  Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2007.
