AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Current law allows a chiropractor to be one of the medical professionals that can clear a child for participation in extracurricular athletic activities.
As proposed, S.B. 1679 requires that physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurses are the only medical professionals who can clear a student to participate in extracurricular athletic activities to ensure that the medical professionals allowing children to play sports have had training in identifying genetic cardiovascular disease.

(d) Requires the University Interscholastic League to adopt rules to implement this section.
