BILL ANALYSIS

Committee Report (Substituted)
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
The judge of the county court at law in Gregg County is currently paid a salary tied to a percentage of the salary paid to a district judge. The purpose of the bill is to change this salary to make it an amount not less than $1,000 less than a district judge's salary.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.
ANALYSIS
The bill would amend the Government Code to provide that the judge of a county court at law in Gregg County shall be paid a salary that is not less than $1,000 less than the total amount of the salary received by a district judge in the county, or more than the amount of the district judge salary.
EFFECTIVE DATE
October 1, 2007
COMPARISON OF ORIGINAL TO SUBSTITUTE
The substitute adds language not found in the original bill stating that the salary of the judge may not be more than the total annual salary received by a district judge in the county.
