A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the filing of campaign finance reports with the Texas Ethics Commission.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Section 254.036, Election Code, is amended by adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:

(b-1) A report filed with the commission that complies with Subsection (a) or that is filed on computer diskette under Subsection (b) must:

(1) be received by the commission by the filing deadline; or

(2) be delivered by overnight delivery through:

(A) the United States mail; or

(B) a contract carrier.

SECTION 2. Section 254.036(b-1), Election Code, as added by this Act, applies only to the filing of a report under Chapter 254, Election Code, that is due on or after September 1, 2007. A report under Chapter 254, Election Code, that is due before September 1, 2007, may be filed as permitted by the law in effect on the date the report is due, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
